Natural Born Birther

I had heard many opinions on childbirth education classes… Everything from “You won’t use ANY of that information. Don’t waste your money.” to “It was such a great experience! We loved it!” Since I tend to over-prepare anyway, I went ahead and signed up for three classes at Baptist Hospital – a six-week childbirth education class, a breastfeeding class, and an infant CPR class. If nothing else, I knew that the classes would ease our minds and make us feel more prepared about labor and delivery, as well as caring for a newborn.

Our first childbirth education class was last Tuesday, and it was pretty much what we had expected. There were 12 or so other couples in the class, and the teacher was super sweet - we knew we liked her before the class had even begun.

Neither of us really learned much during the first class, which I suppose is expected, seeing how it was mostly a third trimester overview (we had read about these things hundreds of times already in books, e-mails, etc.). We also talked a little about some relaxation techniques to use during labor and delivery, and we even had a homework assignment (to start preparing a “relaxation” bag with things like music, movies, massagers, aromatherapy, socks, chapstick, a focal point, etc. – things to help us feel comfortable when we’re at the hospital). It was fun to meet some other parents-to-be, as well, since we all have a lot in common right now!

Tonight is our second class, which is quite exciting!

Other than baby classes, we’ve been pretty busy trying to finish things around the house before Jett makes his grand entrance. The nursery is slowly but surely coming together, and I’m currently searching for a cute, inexpensive white dresser that can double as a changing table (easier said than done!). Last weekend, our big project was to clean out our upstairs closets, which we’re close to completing.

Amidst all of the closest cleaning, we were also able to do something fun over the weekend… Our last Titans game (for this season, at least)! We had a blast at the game, but it was quite a big day for my seven-and-a-half-month pregnant self! Between the walk from our car to the stadium (Ryan actually offered to drop me off at the stadium, but I declined since I knew a walk would be good for me) and the constant up-and-down commotion of a sporting event, I was quite exhausted by the end of the game (I may or may not have fallen asleep sitting on the couch later that evening… Something that’s not out of the norm for me these days.). Luckily the nice people who work at the stadium let me ride the elevator up to our seats.

Here’s a pic of us at the game…

In other news:

  • Jett is moving quite often these days, and I can definitely tell that he’s growing! There are times when it seriously feels like he’s trying to break out of there, and then there are other times when he’s just slowly rolling from one side to the other. Pretty exciting stuff!

  • He’s approximately 15.2-16.7 inches and 2.5-3.8 lbs.

  • Time is flying… Every single day I think about how quickly all of this is happening, which makes me excited, but also a little nervous. Eek!

  • Linny and Ali are throwing a shower for us on Sunday, which we’re really looking forward to! Pics and details to come!

Oh, and if you’re wondering about the title of the post… Someone told me that I must be a “natural born birther” (what?!) the other day after I told her that I was feeling good and hadn’t experienced morning sickness during my pregnancy. The things people say…
