Nesting: Phase 2

Today I tackled a couple big things in the kitchen: the junk drawer, along with two junk bowls… These contained three years’ worth of totally random stuff. Anything that we didn’t know what else to do with, or just weren’t sure if we should throw away… We’d just throw in the junk drawer/bowls (naturally). I threw tons of stuff away, but other things just needed to be better organized. Like our assortment of googly eyes - they just needed a home.

I really wish I would’ve taken a pre-nesting picture, as the final outcome would’ve seemed a lot more impressive, but you’ll just have to trust me… This was a major project.

Ta-da! So organized! I have a few more drawers and cabinets I’d like to get to before Jett’s arrival. Not that he’ll care if the pots and pans are neatly organized… I just want to make everything as easy as possible for his first few weeks (and if knowing exactly where I can find a notepad, or a baking sheet, will make things even the slightest more manageable, I’m happy to do the work now).

I call this “Phase 2” because I feel that there have been a couple other distinct phases… There was the pre-nesting phase, which began months ago. During this phase, Ryan and I sat down and made a list of everything we’d like to accomplish before January. This really helped us to get a handle on what projects we had before us, and it helped us to know where to start.

During Phase 1, we tackled the big projects: paining, carpet cleaning and closet organization. We’re actually still planning to clean another closet or two, but we’ve tackled the two closets that we really needed to organize.

Phase 2 will involve all of the little things that may not seem to matter to some… but that matter to me (at this time, in the so-called nesting phase). I’ve heard stories of girls going a little nutso with the cleaning during their nesting periods, but I’ll just have to wait and see if that actually happens. I’ve always loved a clean house, but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the most rigorous cleaner. I’ll clean the bathroom, but only once have I been caught on my hands and knees with a toothbrush, scrubbing the tile. I might be more of the organize-drawers-and-cabinets type of nester than the hands-and-knees-scrubbing-floors type of nester. We’ll see, though… There are still six weeks left to make sure every inch of this house is ready for our new addition.

Tomorrow, we hope to put Jett’s dresser together, which I’m so excited about, because this will allow us to organize a lot of his things. I’ve withheld posting photos of the nursery because it’s currently in a state of disarray. Soon, though… soon!
