This was a frequent scene at my place over the weekend… Ryan’s aunts - Lori and Cheri - came to meet Jett. And, apparently, to completely spoil us.
If you know Ryan, you know how near and dear his family’s spaghetti and meatballs is to his heart. So, naturally he requested that Lori make it one night while they were in town. We were so excited that Lori was planning to cook dinner for us. What we didn’t know, though, was that not only was she planning to make us spaghetti and meatballs, she was going to make us a whole week (and then some) worth of meals. Our fridge and freezer is now stocked! We have spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, beef stew, Mexican casserole, chicken casserole, meatloaf, banana pudding, tons of fruit… And I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things. With all that I’m planning to freeze, I’m sure we will make this food last a month!
She and Cheri definitely spoiled us! It was a lot of fun to get to show them some sights around Nashville, too… We took them to see the Ryman, the statue if Billy Graham, the Parthenon and the Opry. Of course, the most fun was probably hanging out and playing games (we love our Catch Phrase!)…
Their trip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, as I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed the past week or so. I know that things will get easier everyday, when it comes to the work/home balance, but it sure makes things easier when you have family members in town to spoil you. :-)
This also got me thinking about the best gifts for new moms and dads… Food! I can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated all of the meals that have been cooked for us since Jett was born… Being able to eat a healthy, home-cooked meal without having to stress over grocery shopping and preparation means more than anything to us first-time parents! And while I love to cook, and can’t wait to get back into it, it’s sure nice to go home and play with my baby, knowing that dinner is ready to pop into the oven.
