At Jett’s six-month appointment yesterday, his pediatrician encouraged us to feed him the same things that we eat for dinner. She said that, other than honey, nothing is really off limits - we could just throw whatever meat/veggies/fruits/etc. that we made into the food processor, and voila - baby food!

I thought this sounded great, especially since we’d know exactly what was in the food, and could therefore limit salt, sugar, etc.

Last night was our first homemade baby food experiment, and it went really well! I had roasted some zucchini and squash to go with pasta and Italian sausages, and just threw them in the blender after they were done. The pedi said that Jett could have some spices, but to play it safe (since this was the first time), I only added a little olive oil to the veggies before roasting. After they were nice and soft, I just threw some zucchini and squash pieces in the blender and blended for a minute or so. The olive oil gave the purée a nice texture, and it was quite tasty, too!

The ultimate test, of course, was for Jett to try it. Judging by the fact that he kept opening his mouth for a spoonful, I’d say it was a hit! Of course,he did make some funny faces, and he pushed a lot of it out with his tongue, but we will take what we can get. Baby steps!
