What an angel, right?!

Well, he is, of course, but he didn’t look as peaceful/happy/calm last night when I was getting him ready for bed… He looked more like a tomato-faced mad old man than the picture of peace he’s portraying here.

One thing (of many) that I’ve learned lately: Your baby’s bedtime routine is going to get messed up after a trip. Like, really messed up. At one point last night, I turned to Ryan and said, exhausted, “This is like when he was first born!”

For the past four months or so, we’ve had our bedtime routine down… Around 8:30, he’d get sleepy, so I’d change his diaper, dress him in PJs, read Goodnight Moon, feed him, and lay him down in his crib, where he’d stay (with little or no fussiness!) until I got him up to feed him around 6:30 the next morning. I felt so grateful to have such a good sleeper, especially after he dropped his middle-of-the-night feedings a couple months ago.

Yeah… we were proud of our little sleeper.

As I expected, things were a little out of whack when we were travelling… Later bedtimes, and more sleeping in the bed with mommy and daddy. I tried to keep his nap routine fairly consistent, but other than that, we were just kind of going with the flow.

And now it feels like we are back at square one. He cries more than he used to at bed time, gets over-tired from all the crying, and isn’t completely thrilled about sleeping in his crib.

I knew this was to be expected with traveling, and that it would take us a few days to get back on track, so I’m just going to stick with our usual routine, and hope he falls back into the rhythm of bedtime.

Any of you mommas have experience with this? I’d love some tips, if so!
