Did I tell you that Ryan and I are writing books?
Well, technically, we've started a project that should result in completed books in a year. That's the plan!
Our goal is to write a page a day, and then, in July 2014, we will edit and bind our books.
Here's the thing: Writing a book - a completely original work of fiction - is quite daunting. I mean, I really don't even know what my book is ABOUT nor do I know the characters yet. I'm not even sure if the characters/topics will even be present in the final draft.
But we're not letting that stop us!
We had a discussion the other day about how intimidating STARTING a book is. Like, writing the first word on the first page of your first book. Writing a first chapter so compelling that your reader is willing to read 300 more pages of the story.
Then we had an idea... The first page we sit down to write doesn't necessarily have to be the first page of the book. It doesn't even have to be IN the book. It could be a page from the middle of the book, or maybe something that will be scrapped altogether.
So, this has definitely helped to motivate me, and while I took a few days off during the holiday, I'm definitely back in it.
Because, like I've been told many, many times... Writing "muscles" - just like any other muscles - need to be exercised. So, if I want to be a good writer, say, by my third novel or so, I have to put in the hard work to write that first novel, which may not be my BEST work.
And yes, I may not be working a traditional 9-5 job, but MAN am I busy! Between writing, blogging, Stella & Dot, looking for other work-from-home/part-time jobs, and just trying to be an all-around SUPERMOM, whew!
But it's so much fun! I wouldn't trade it for anything! XO
