In order to protect my family/friends, I have replaced real names with aliases…
Me: “Man, I’m really starting to get a belly! Is it because I’m almost 30? I’ve just never found it so hard to keep off the weight around my mid-section! Ahhhh!”
Spacers: “Well, maybe it’s just that your body is making room for a little baby!”
Me: “Uh, no. I don’t think that’s how it happens. Nice try though.”
RD: “I’ve really been noticing lately that you look more like a ‘mom’.”
Me: “What?!? What does that mean, exactly?”
RD: “Well, you just look like you could have a baby.”
Me: “EXCUSE ME?! Are you saying I’m FAT? That’s not really a nice thing to say…”
RD: “Uh… Um, no. Uh… what I mean is that you have an aura about you that just makes me think that you could be a mom… Like you would actually want to hold a baby, whereas you used to just be all ‘OMG, I don’t want to hold that baby.’”
(Good save there, R.D.)
So… WTF?! This is true, people! I mean, I may have filled in the blanks where my memory has failed me, but these are real conversations. I think the universe is trying to tell me something. And trust me, I’m embracing it. It’s just so funny/weird to have conversations like this… Am I really old enough to be talking about babies?
And hopefully the Pilates I’ve been doing in the mornings will help me to not look “like i’m making room for a baby”/”like i could be a mom”. Ha.
