My Sunday project: laundry! Not just any laundry, mind you… Jett’s laundry. Washing (with Dreft baby detergent, of course!), drying and folding all of his adorable (and tiny) onesies, socks, swaddle blankets and towels.
It hit me as I was transferring the teeny tiny clothes from the washer to the dryer - I am having a baby. In about a month. This is happening. These clothes belong to my baby, who will be here in five weeks. This is real.
As I am five weeks away from my due date, this shouldn’t be such a shock, I know… But it shocks me every day, really! It is sometimes hard to realize that a baby will enter our lives in just five short weeks. He will be here… living in our house with us, sharing our lives. Wow!
I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and she assured me that she felt like this up until she went into labor. So, I know I’m not the only one who has a hard time grasping the situation. I’m sure there are plenty of first time moms who are just as excited/nervous/bewildered as me.
The laundering experience was much more profound than I thought it would be… It was definitely emotional, and pretty exciting too. As I folded each blanket, onesie and sheet, I honestly wanted to be the best laundry-folder I could possibly be. I wanted everything to be perfect for him. I’ve never been so meticulous with laundry… After I wash and dry my clothes, I usually lay them in a pile in my room and get around to putting them away a week or so later. Not so much with the baby’s clothes. Like I said, I was aiming for perfection.
In other news, he’s moving like CRAZY lately. He’s actually moving around quite a bit as I type this… Maybe it was the chocolate ice cream I ate an hour ago! :)
We’re still attending childbirth education classes, which we both really like. If nothing else, I feel like the classes are giving me confidence, about both the labor/delivery and also caring for a newborn. The confidence I get from the classes allows my excitement to grow each week. We just have two more classes left, as well as an infant CPR class.
Until next time… xoxo
