Throughout my pregnancy, I read anything pregnancy-related that I could get my hands on. From “What to Expect” to various blogs and forums, I read it all.

One of my favorites is one that I read after Jett was born, when we were curious about schedules and routines. There are a few main things I took away from “The Baby Whisperer”…

First of all, author Tracy Hogg outlines her simple yet brilliant EASY (Eat-Activity-Sleep-You) routine that has worked so well for our little guy. Using this format has really helped us (and Jett) to know what to expect throughout a normal day. And knowing what to expect, we have been able to form our new-normal life.

Secondly, Tracy talks a lot about respect. She reminds readers that babies are people too, and therefore deserve to be treated with the same respect. She encourages readers to think about how they’d like to be treated, and treat their baby in the same way. I think about this every time I change Jett’s diaper, even. Instead if picking him up after a nap and quickly changing him, I’ve made more of an effort to be gentle, and to always explain to him what’s happening.

One other thing that really stood out to me was Hogg’s emphasis on “starting as you mean to go on”… Basically, she explains to readers how it’s never too early to start something (like the EASY routine, or a certain bedtime routine, etc.). Basically, start as you mean to go on. Don’t wait.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know about this book in case you’re expecting and looking for things to read… I wish I would’ve heard about this book four months earlier than I did! :)
