As I mentioned yesterday, last Saturday night, Aunt Linny hung out with Jett so that I could watch Jett’s daddy play with Young Hines at Mercy Lounge. So fun!
The show was great… I knew I liked Young’s music, but I hadn’t seen him perform, so I was quite impressed. And of course, the bass player was pretty cute and sure had skillz. ;) We also got to check out The Howling Brothers, who opened, and Brendan Benson, who headlined. A very excellent night of music, indeed. And if you’ve not checked out these guys, please do so! Your ears will thank you.
Since it was my first night out in forever (Srsly… I think the last time I was at a bar was when Deacon played at The Wine Loft way back in October!), I had a few observations…
First of all, I have a little separation anxiety on the weekends, which seems odd to me since I work away from home 40 hours a week. I guess it just must be since I’m used to spending the entire weekend with Jett? Go figure. Anyway, it was hard to get excited about leaving him for a couple hours, but I had a great time once we got there.
Also, it’s quite easy to feel like a fish out of water when you’re in a bar-like situation after having a baby. I found myself feeling a little socially awkward a few times, as I tried to carry on conversations with new people. I guess that just reinforces the fact that it’s good to maintain a balance - and it’s good to get out of the house without Jett every now and then, as non-fun as it sounds.
It was a pretty fun night though… And I’m starting to figure out that things don’t have to be so black and white. I can go to a rock show in Saturday night and wake up and watch cartoons on Sunday morning with Jett. (Okay, maybe he doesn’t watch cartoons yet, but you know what I mean…)
:)
